Anti-Discrimination & Other Work

EAP occasionally represents students and families on a range of other education-related issues.  For instance, we have assisted a transgender student whose school refused to change her name in its databased.  We also have advocated to ensure students/families receive language-access accommodations, from translated documents to interpreters at school meetings.  And we have helped clients access alternative graduation pathways, including vocational training and GED/TASC diplomas.

Please see the FAQs for more information on the rights of LGBTQ+ and immigrant youth, as well as links to state and federal agencies that investigate discrimination claims.  We also encourage families facing issues with language-access to contact the New York Civil Liberties Union at schools@nyclu.org.
