Re-Entry Services
Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
Individuals who have been incarcerated or have criminal records have an incredible set of barriers to overcome if they wish to leave their past behind. In addition to the stigma a criminal conviction creates, there are often civil legal matters that have been unattended for some time. In many cases these legal issues, though once secondary to other concerns, have now grown to be significant obstacles in the pursuit of employment, education, housing, and family reunification. Our reentry services assist qualifying individuals in a wide range of matters including:
- Employment
- Housing
- Educational Opportunities
- Child Support
- DMV suspensions
- Financial Stability
- Certificates of relief from disabilities or certificates of good conduct
We are proud to be affiliated with the Federal Reentry Court based in the Western District, the University of Buffalo Law School Reentry Practicum, the Erie County Restorative Justice Coalition, and the Erie County Reentry Task Force.
Veterans and Military Families
The Civil Unit prioritizes services to veterans and military families. The issues facing veterans can be varied and complex. Many of the clients in the veteran’s initiative need help in multiple practice areas. It is common for us to assist the same individual in a range of practice areas including:
- Housing Matters
- Financial Wellbeing/Bankruptcy
- Family Law
- Employment Matters
