Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo Attorney Amanda Wadsworth’s work on behalf of our client, Mr. Morgan Eaton, is highlighted in a Buffalo News editorial today, October 1, 2020.
Buffalo Police arrested Morgan Eaton on charges of possessing cocaine for sale even though they doubted the substance was cocaine. It turned out to be a legal, over-the-counter medication. The two officers involved have been suspended.
In discussing a plea, the DA’s Office had been willing to adjourn the case in contemplation of dismissal if Eaton pleaded to disorderly conduct. When the lab results became known, the DA’s Office offered the ACD without expecting Eaton to plead to anything. But considering the lab results and the body camera video, Amanda wanted the charges dismissed outright. In July – four months after Eaton’s wrongful arrest – the charges were finally dismissed.
This is just one example of the vital work our criminal defense attorneys do daily at the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo.
