The Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo seeks to provide access to justice and due process to the most vulnerable individuals, children and families in the Western New York Community through quality legal representation and assistance.

Under the direction of the Controller, the primary role of the Grants Management Accountant will be to lead the fiscal management of the Bureau’s various grant awards and contracted services. Other responsibilities include review and preparation of financial data that conform to GAAP and funding reporting requirements; general ledger account reconciliations; and other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Assists CFO/Controller in preparation of grant proposals and applications and requests for proposals.
  • Maintains schedule/calendar for current grants
  • Monitors spend downs of funding budgets
  • Prepares and reconciles financial grant reports, ensuring adherence to grant budget and guidelines (monthly, quarterly and annually as required)
  • Communicates with other departments to assist with understanding of grant processes, reporting metrics and requirements
  • Prepares monthly schedules and applicable journal entries in order to allocate expenses to appropriate funding sources
  • Assists in the resolution of funding audit findings, account discrepancies and issues of non-compliance
  • Contributes to the development of new or amended accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepares reports, analysis, and forecasts for CFO, Controller as needed for Board of Directors, Union negotiations, grant applications, etc.
  • Assists in payroll review and computation and recording of accruals as needed
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned by CFO, Controller

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field, including or supplemented by a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credit hours in accounting, and two (2) years experience as a Bookkeeper or Accountant, or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • CPA preferred

     This position is full-time.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $85,000, depending on experience
