The Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to assist with the management of accounting for the organization conforming to GAAP, and the daily supervision of the Financial Analyst. Other responsibilities include general ledger account reconciliations, preparation of selected funding vouchers, and other related duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervises and manages Financial Analyst in the execution of his/her daily duties ensuring the Financial Analyst has been given clear direction regarding the priority for completion of duties and has been sufficiently trained.
- Provides regular feedback, coaching, and discipline, when necessary to the Financial Analyst.
- Responsible to ensure maintenance of general ledger, journals, and other financial records for month end/year end processing.
- Prepares reports for Chief Financial Officer or Controller as needed for Board of Directors, Union negotiations, grant applications, etc.
- Works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Controller at fiscal year-end to prepare for the annual financial audit.
- Supports Chief Financial Officer/Controller in annual budgeting process, as needed.
- Prepares accounts payable invoices for review and approval including following of various funding budgets for allowable expenses and creating expense allocations.
- Process accounts payable checks after approval.
- Maintains accounting personnel and payroll records and acts as a backup to Financial Analyst position for preparing payroll.
- Receives, authenticates, and implements employee wage garnishments.
- Prepares reports and payments for payroll taxes.
- Maintains equipment inventories and is responsible for assignment of asset tags.
- Complies with federal, state, and local requirements for preparing and filing financial reports.
- Protects Legal Aid operations by keeping financial information and plans and employee information confidential.
- Protects agency resources by ensuring compliance with funding and other contract agreements.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly reports and vouchers to funding sources, as needed.
- Assists Chief Financial Officer/Controller in preparation of grant proposals, as needed.
- Locates files, invoices, and reports as requested by auditors and funding sources.
- Performs related duties as required.
Employment Standards:
- Graduation from an accredited or registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field, including or supplemented by a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credit hours in accounting, and five (5) years experience as a Bookkeeper or Accountant, or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience, may be considered.
