Hi, my name is Woodcherleene, but some call me Charleene. I recently graduated with my Bachelor of Science this May, earning magna cum laude honors. I’m a proud transfer student from Guttman Community College. During my time there, I received multiple awards, including the Leadership and Community Advocacy Award, research recognition, and a Community Development Award.
I intentionally took two years to grow in my faith and explore my passion for community development. Today, I’m an active member of Campus Ambassadors and previously served as a Resident Advisor and Senator for Evans Quad at the University at Buffalo.
I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside my Assembly Member and was honored to be selected as a CUNY Caucus Scholar, where I gained firsthand experience in public service and policy advocacy. I’m currently diving deeper into understanding how community development connects to the quality of life for people from all walks of life.
I’m deeply passionate about education equity and civil justice, and I look forward to building a career that allows me to serve and uplift my community.
I joined Legal Aid to learn directly from attorneys and social workers about their work in housing, education, the court system, and how these areas impact people’s everyday life experiences. I’m excited to gain real insight into their day-to-day work and learn more about the important cases shaping our communities today.
