Lawyers in the Law Guardian Unit represent children in Family Court proceedings that deal with issues of abuse, neglect, foster care, juvenile delinquency, PINS (Persons in Need of Supervision) petitions.
A 14-year-old girl had been at the Children's Psychiatric Center for three months, after years of abuse and neglect. Our Law Guardian arranged for her placement in a nurturing and comforting foster home, where she may heal.
An 11-year-old leaned over and whispered to her Law Guardian, "I have to tell you something." We subsequently effected her removal from the foster home in which she had been abused for eight years.
